| Please Join Us for a Book Party and Reception Honoring Clarence B. Jones and Stuart Connelly’s Behind the Dream: The Making of the Speech that Transformed a Nation On August 27, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gathered his trusted advisors in the lobby of the Willard Hotel to brainstorm ideas for his speech for the March on Washington. His lawyer and close friend, Clarence B. Jones, joined the group – sheltered behind a curtain of plants, chairs and watchful porters – and took notes on the discussion. Later, Clarence went up to his room to produce a draft, not realizing the speech he was working on would forever change the nation. A few hours later, the arc of history bent, as King invoked the immortal words “I have a dream…”
Now, Clarence Jones and Stuart Connelly have written an extraordinary account of the March on Washington and the Dream Speech, Behind the Dream: The Making of the Speech that Transformed a Nation. Please join Third Way to honor and celebrate their work when Mr. Jones returns to the Willard on Tuesday, March 1st at 6:00pm. CLICK HERE to RSVP, or reply to this email.
