If you'd like to see old British ladies digitally stimulated into orgasm but you share a computer with someone who checks your browser history, you're in luck! We have that for you today, in the respectable guise of the trailer for Hysteria, a period sex comedy starring Maggie Gyllenhaal. (Yes, we did say "period sex comedy starring Maggie Gyllenhaal"!) She stars alongside Hugh Dancy and Rupert Everett, who play inventors struggling to come up with the perfect vibrator to use on their female patients, all of whom have been deemed "hysterical" (as this movie would like to be, no doubt). You are intrigued? Then press play on this trailer, but beware of the slight NSFW bits that come when these orgasming old biddies pop out a surprised "Oh!" like a hard candy just fell out of their open purse.

Even vibrators have an origin story.
Hysteria, a romantic comedy directed by Tanya Wexler about Victorian doctor Joseph Mortimer, stars Hugh Dancy as the medically gifted and Maggie Gyllenhaal as a young woman who catches his eye.
"Pleasure has nothing to do with it, I promise," Dancy promises Gyllenhaal at one point in the trailer before viewers see the events leading up to the invention of the vibrator.
Jonathan Pryce, Rupert Everett and Felicity Jones co-star in the upcoming film, which will make its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival this September, written by Stephen Dyer, Jonah Lisa Dyer and Howard Gensler.

This is quite possibly the most absurd thing I’ve seen today, but also fairly cute and just a bit charming. The trailer for Hysteria shows the work of Jonathan Pryce, Hugh Dancy, Rupert Everett and Maggie Gyllenhaal in a period sex comedy about the invention of the vibrator. Or, to borrow a line from the trailer, “we are NOT going to take a dangerous electrical device and press it against a lady’s most gentle areas.” Actually, yes. You are. Many, many times. See the trailer, erm, below.
This is theoretically not safe for work, if you work in a place where the idea of watching the orgasm scene from When Harry Met Sally wouldn’t go over so well.

Watch: TIFF Trailer for Tanya Wexler's 'Hysteria' with Hugh Dancy
By Alex Billington
FIRST SHOWING

"Must be difficult pleasuring half the women in the city." Despite that rather dainty photo, this flick is about the origins of the vibrator. It actually looks pretty good, too. Another new trailer for a recently announced TIFF film - Tanya Wexler's Hysteria, starring Hugh Dancy and Maggie Gyllenhaal, a cheeky romantic comedy set in Victorian London about the invention of the world's first vibrator. Also stars Jonathan Pryce, Rupert Everett, Gemma Jones and Felicity Jones, who is barely in the trailer at all. This actually looks fun, I think that's the best way to describe it. Just fire up the trailer below, you'll see exactly what I mean. Enjoy!
